Are you ready to explore your interests, develop new skills and discover what you could achieve? Our Vocational Pathways Level 1 programme is designed for young people with additional support needs, giving you the opportunity to experience different aspects of college life in a welcoming and supportive environment.
You'll build your confidence, independence and practical skills while exploring your interests and discovering what it's like to study alongside other students. With personalised support tailored to your individual needs, you'll prepare for your next steps, whether that's progressing onto another college course, a supported internship or employment.
As part of the programme, you'll spend one day a week studying a subject of your choice alongside other college students, gaining hands-on experience in areas such as:
- Health and Social Care
- ICT
- Business and Administration
- Construction
- Sport and Public Services
- Art and Design
- Media
Alongside your chosen subject, you'll develop essential employability, personal and social skills through practical activities, English, maths, enrichment sessions and tutorials.
You'll also have opportunities to make new friends, become more independent and take part in activities that help you feel connected to your college and local community.
With opportunities to gain valuable work experience with a suitable employer, this flexible programme will help you discover your strengths, explore your ambitions and build the confidence and skills you need to take your next step.
You will need:
- GCSEs at grade 1 or above in English and maths
Throughout the programme, you'll build a portfolio of work to showcase your progress, achievements and new skills. This may include written assignments, photographs, videos and personal reflections. Your portfolio will be assessed throughout the course to recognise your learning and development.
You'll also continue developing your English and maths skills at a level that's right for you. Depending on your starting point and progress, you'll work towards GCSEs, Functional Skills qualifications or personalised learning goals through RARPA (Recognising and Recording Progress and Achievement), helping you build confidence and prepare for your next steps.
You could progress onto a mainstream Level 1 study programme, Supported Internships or Supported Apprenticeships, depending on your chosen path.
All learners participate in group sessions as well as individual study. The study methods are a mix of practical, theory and independent research, completed by learners with appropriate support.
